The key idea behind this post is to remind ourselves that with a bit of analysis, we can make things a little easier for ourselves. In particular, it appears that waiting around the carousel has a relatively high perceived cost to the customer. For example, see this NY Times article:
https://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/19/opinion/sunday/why-waiting-in-line-is-torture.html?_r=1&pagewanted=all

"This story hints at a general principle: the experience of waiting, whether for luggage or groceries, is defined only partly by the objective length of the wait. “Often the psychology of queuing is more important than the statistics of the wait itself,” notes the M.I.T. operations researcher Richard Larson, widely considered to be the world’s foremost expert on lines."Shivahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05571015480979394896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7435391049679382734.post-2722859351169711282012-10-18T14:50:33.083-04:002012-10-18T14:50:33.083-04:00The argument is predicated on tired eyes. As long as the task isn't too strenuous.

Having people at O start the sort means that I can still do some sorting by positioning myself at the end of the line but still closer to O.

Positioning yourself at D might be more strenuous because the bag frequency is too slow to keep your attention. And mistakes at D have higher consequences because the bag must loop around again before you can pick it up.Annony Mousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00723059536872346351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7435391049679382734.post-46583596116051117752012-10-12T10:39:27.742-04:002012-10-12T10:39:27.742-04:00absolutely. personally i use a small address label...absolutely. personally i use a small address label sticker for international trips. any marker or gang sign helps given that u only have a few seconds to make a positive IDShivahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05571015480979394896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7435391049679382734.post-56997205891845849122012-10-12T03:34:48.636-04:002012-10-12T03:34:48.636-04:00The strap should be unique so that it can catch yo...The strap should be unique so that it can catch your eye from a distance. This would help you to avoid any sort of confusion. In this way you can easily spot your luggage and avoid situations of clash in which two people rush for a luggage.London Taxishttp://www.taxisforlondon.comnoreply@blogger.com
